Happy FriYAY Team!

2024 is the 2nd time I have been on the start line at the UTMB Tarawera 50k Ultra in Rotorua, New Zealand.

The 2nd time I have had the excitement of being on the start line listening to the Haka in the darkness before sunrise. The 2nd time I have had the joy of running through incredibly spectacular forests. The 2nd time I’ve run with pride and dead legs down that finish line in the city center on Town Green.

Both of these T50k Ultra marathons may be over the same/slightly different course, but no 2 races are the same! There have been a number of elements I’ve had both positive and negative experiences, leaving me with insightful and growth learnings.

Each time we set ourselves a challenge, whether for time or distance, there is always a learning process we should be grateful for. These challenges are there to bring out the best in us and to push our minds and bodies to our absolute best.

I have walked away from Tarawera with a new found respect for the distance (which was over 53km this year!!) and am excited to implement changes and improvements moving forward.

Keep challenging yourselves, get out of those comfort zones and always continue to learn. Having that growth mindset will continue to see you strive for your personal greatness.
