Happy FriYAY Team!

Do you believe in a Lucky Charm? Perhaps you have something you carry with you or wear when you race? Perhaps you have a special piece of clothing or equipment that has been with you through those good & bad races? Perhaps it is something special from a family member? I have no doubt, all of us have that something special to have close to us that we believe brings us good luck and good fortune.

Many years ago when I raced Ironman Taiwan, my bike missed the plane to get to Penghu Island and therefore had to put shipped over by boat. I was told my bike wouldn't make it on time and it was unlikely I would race.

Yes, all that hard work in training, the expense of it all, and then to be told hours before check in closed that it was unlikely to arrive.....I was pretty guttered.

As all hope started to dimmish, I had a phone call telling me the boat had just arrived and they weren't sure if my bike was on it, but to come back to check-in and see. I had everything crossed when I walked into that room, and my heart started to sink when I couldn't see my bike bag. BUT....there was a bike bag in the corner, and the thing that caught my eye, was Josh's Batman bag tag.....My bike had in fact, made it!!! I don't think I have ever cried tears of such happiness before, and put together my bike so quickly.

I have never loved that Batman symbol as much as I did and I will never ever forget that tiny moment in time.

Since that day, Josh's Batman bag tag goes with me wherever and whenever I race an A race.

To most people, it is just a tatted old Batman symbol, to me, that will always be my Lucky Charm.

As many of us approach end of season A Races, don't ever discount the importance, and the simplicity, of having YOUR Lucky Charm.
