Happy FriYAY Team!
"The real purpose of running isn't to win a race, it's to test the limits of the human heart"
Bill Bowerman
So often we all get complacent, happy in our own little bubble and at ease within our comfort zone. And there is nothing wrong with that...to a certain degree! However, if we aren't pushing ourselves out of our controlled environments, if we don't try new experiences, then how do we continue to grow?
I am 100% sure for those of us who headed down to Griffith Uni last weekend to watch the Butter Run, really didn't have an idea of what to expect, other than watch a bunch of crazy people running around and around and around the track.....for 6-12-24 hours. I honestly can say, it was far more than that!
All of the runners participating last weekend, regardless of the distance, where all well & truly outside their personal comfort zones lap after lap, hour after hour.
The nutritional planning to cover the duration of these events, the appropriate clothing required to get through the temperatures and elements, the mental strength to ignore the incorrect distances showing on Garmin's were just a few of the challenges faced.
To me, watching the roller coaster of highs & lows both mentally & physically, the positive laps, the laps were they wanted to quit, the small talk during their aid station stops and the determination to keep the legs going lap after lap will forever be etched in my mind that the human body can go far beyond what we think is possible.
To Tim & Jezz in the 6hr....you guys were both so impressive in your race execution. Jezz finishing in 1st place with Tim in 4th. A bow to you both.
Then Erin. Our Ultra Queen Erin. The roller coaster of highs and lows, the grit, the determination, the struggles and the mindset through the pain will be something imprinted in my mind, and has certainly proved to me that where there is a goal worth fighting for, then let the fight begin.
Tim, Jezz & Erin. Thankyou. Thankyou for showing us the true limits of the human heart.
