Happy FriYAY Team!

For those athletes who know Kona, who know the history, who know the traditions and who have always known this as the Holy Grail of triathlon, so many of us have been left wondering why Ironman continue to make changes to this World Championship event for the 2nd consecutive year.

Having the men and women's races split, different dates, different countries, certainly has taken away the prestige of this World Championship race.

This year, 2024, saw the women for the 1st time be on the start line in Nice, France.

The Nice course is opposite ends of the racing and course spectrum to that of Kona. The terrain, the weather and elements, , everything is completely different in Nice. So this years Women's World Champs race was always going to be a race of the unknowns.

It did prove to be an absolutely epic race of skill and confidence, of grit and courage, not only the pro field, but for thousands of age groupers women.

The Pro field certainly was stacked, with some of the best ironman athletes in the world, and whilst my 2 favs pulled out, it was a skillful ride and a running race which certainly left us all hanging on the edge of our seats. And epic race and finish.

So whilst I know this event was a huge success on so many levels for Ironman racing and women in sport, I am still, and so are many of us who have raced Kona as a World Championship event, are of the opinion that nothing compares to men & women racing in Kona, bringing the best in the world together for 1 incredible day of atmosphere, racing and mate ship.
