Happy FriYAY Team!
We are surrounded by incredible & inspiring role models. At times, I think we all become too comfortable in our little bubbles & take so much for granted. Simple things in life, like people around us.
I haven't done a Sunday Shout Out for quite a while now, so thought I would make this the Tuff Stuff Salute :-)
Last Sunday at Raby Bay, Jase G was racing for points in the QTS Series. After Round 5, he was placed 3rd, so being at the pointy end, every point really does count.
Murphy's Law would have it, Jase suffered a puncture at the furthest turnout point on the last lap and within a matter of moments, had a decision to make. Change the tyre, pull out, or run back. In all the years I have known Jase, never once have I seen Jase quit. The only option for him was to run the 3km back to transition and carry on with the event.
So running 3km with a bike and in bare feet is no simple task. The road is not smooth and by that time in the morning, it was hot. Peddles clip shins, arms get tired holding onto a seat, people are racing past you. I have seen this happen before in races and always felt sorry for the athlete.
Please don't take this the wrong way, but I didn't feel sorry for Jase when I heard what happened. I know Jase doesn't want sympathy, otherwise he would've pulled out right. Jase doesn't want anyone feeling sorry for him.
Jase wants us to follow his lead, his example, his motivation to finish what he started, to be proud of the obstacle he overcame out there on race day. Jase wants to show us that where there is a will, there is a way. Sure, he didn't get the result & the points he wanted, but the fact is, he will be getting points for his efforts.
It is efforts like this which really should make us so grateful for the incredible people within our Multisport Gold Family and what can be achieved even when the situation is against us.
Yes, YOU are stronger than YOU think.
