Happy FriYAY Team!
In sport, inspiration doesn’t always come from the fastest times, the biggest wins, or the most experienced athletes—it often comes from the people training right beside us. Whether it’s the beginner taking their first steps into open water, the age-grouper juggling family and training, or the seasoned athlete still chasing personal goals, each person brings a story worth learning from. When we look beyond performance and focus on the dedication, resilience, and joy others bring to training, we find motivation to push ourselves in new ways.
One human I feel so blessed to know is Kelvin Alley, yes, Kath's dad. Kelvin is humble, he doesn’t seek the spotlight, but his actions speak & kindness volumes. Kelvin celebrates the successes of others as much as his incredible family. Whilst he does enjoy sharing many stories from his marathon glory days, he continues to quietly inspire by leading through example. Kelvin is currently riding from Port Douglas back to the Gold Coast solo, yes, RIDING! He has been clocking up over 150km a day, smiles in all of his Strava posts and raising money along the way for our Special Forces Veterans through Wandering Warriors. Kelvin is expected to arrive at the Coomera parkrun Soldiers Memorial at 9.00am on Saturday.
No matter your age, ability, or ambitions, sport is a journey that thrives on shared energy. Watching someone celebrate finishing their first parkrun can remind us of why we started, just as seeing a teammate quietly grind through winter training can fuel our own consistency, and celebrating a finish by a local Legend like Kelvin can inspire us that age is just a number. By keeping our eyes and hearts open to those around us, we not only become stronger athletes but also build a deeper connection to the sport and the community that sustains it. Inspiration is everywhere.
YOU are stronger than YOU think,
