Happy FriYAY Team!
It was with great shock & sadness that I read the news of changes being made to Ironman, the brand & company. During the Covid pandemic when all of their events, staff & planning were all cancelled, this proved to be far bigger than this organization could control.
Ironman has been sold out to another company who have plans to rename, rebadge & change the entire structure of the Ironman racing in 2023 and beyond. The new owners are of the belief that Ironman distance of racing has had its day, & to keep the sport evolving, there needs to be dramatic changes. The new owners have not yet released the new distances, however they have said that the Ironman Distance, along with 70.3 will be drastically changing.
They have also outlined they will be streamlining their entire schedule of events, which sadly includes Tarawera, stating they be either cancelled or revamped to fit in with their new profile.
I know many of the crew will be saddened by this news, just as I am. We all love our Ironman racing, the challenges it brings, the sense of accomplishment when we make it to the finish line, as well as the Team bonding these events always bring to the forefront of the squad.
I will post more details as they come to hand on our Facebook page to ensure we are all kept in the loop of our future in the sport.
Lets do This,
Alli |

Multisport Gold parkrun on tour Number 8 |
| |
|
Saturday 14th May
Multisport Gold parkrun on Tour #8 will see us venture to a course not many of us have done! Yarrabilba! The course is at Darlington Parklands, Yarrabilba & is run entirely on foot paths. It is a 3 1/2 lap course, run entirely in an anti-clockwise direction, with signage stenciled onto the paths.
For those looking for a 3.5km warm up, we will meet at Logan Village, on Waterford-Tambourine Rd at 6.15am. Then after parkrun, and easy jog back to the cars. From here, we will find a coffee shop (open to suggestions!! ) to regroup & swap run stories!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLDM1oeV23s...
In true Multisport Gold style, having our squad colours over the course will be another parkrun on Tour to remember! |

Last Saturday was a smorgasbord of trail running up on the Sunshine Coast! 2 brand new events at different locations, gave trail lovers the option of competing in 2 totally different Ultra events. And what a day of racing it turned out to be!
The Noosa Ultra was represented by Tim, Erin, Mr K & Coach Alli in the 50km....which ended up as 51.1km!!!! The course was over spectacular terrain & countryside, a mix of road, fire & single trails. Tim won his age category of 60-99 (how funny is that!) with Mr K a close 2nd....what a tussle these 2 had!! Erin came 2nd in her category & was 7th female overall. Coach Alli was super stoked to finish her 1st Ultra marathon, learning so much along the way....and savoring those finish line feelings :-)
Then a few suburbs away, Jesse was competing in the Yandino 5'0' 50km Ultra. This race had much more elevations than Noosa, but that didn't slow Jesse down at all! He clocked an awesome time of 5hrs 13 mins to win his category. A huge congrats Jesse!
This Sunday is the Gold Coast Triathlon - Luke Harrop Memorial, back at its home at the Broadwater! This is always such an awesome race in terms of atmosphere, racing & location, and one I know a number of the team are excited for! For those of you who don't know who Luke was, he was an incredible up & coming triathlete, the brother of Lorretta. Tragically, Luke was killed in a training ride. Each year, the triathlon community comes together to celebrate his life, accomplishments, and our love for the sport of Triathlon. The tent will be up for our Crew, friends & family to use! Remember this race is worth Double Points in our Club Champs Series....so #letsdothis. |
