Happy FriYAY Team!
Triathlon is more than just a sport. Yes, we all love it and all have our personal goals, but there is more to it than just training & racing.
The week leading into Kona for me is always an exciting, and difficult one as there is so many incredible memories which come flooding back. Seeing all the spam coming through on socials, really does make me want to be back on the Big Island of Hawaii, to be part of the greatest sporting event on the planet.
I was riding on Zwift the other morning, and a song came on my playlist that I'd never really listened to the lyrics closely before, but for some reason, I heard every single word of this song. It was like the song was being sung to me about my times in Kona. I was almost in tears, and it takes a lot to bring me to tears!!!
But there were tears of happiness and joy, of all the incredible experiences this sport of triathlon has brought to me over 20+ years, and my family more recently. The places I have traveled to, the venues I have raced at and the results I have achieved, have all made me who I am today.
But mostly, it is the people I have met along the way that I feel so much personal fulfillment from. Random people that I have connected with at races are now life long friends, my competitors that I hate on the start line but would do anything for outside of racing, when like-minded people come together and bonds are created. And of course, the MultiSport Gold Family. To me, these bonds are the greatest gift in our sport.
So whilst I reflect on the experiences, learnings, mother nature and her elements, the history and all things Kona and Triathlon, above all I am the most grateful for the joys of friendships I have been blessed with over the years in this sport.
Let's do This,
