WEEKLY GOLD TUFF STUFF

Happy FriYAY Team!

As you all know, Ironman, and Kona in particular, are very close to my heart. Having raced on the Big Island of Hawaií twice, these are memories which will forever be etched in my fondest memories.

Like many of the Ironman fraternity out there, many have been shocked and saddened at the new direction Ironman have decided to take with their World Championship Event in Kona over the coming years. Separating mens and women's races not only on different days, but in different countries many months apart is something which I can not seem to understand why and how this could happen. .

I'd love to voice my opinions on so many issues here LOL, however I wont bore all of you with my rants! One thing that does sadden me is the loss which will be suffered by so many Triathlon Clubs globally. Having athletes qualify for a World Championship event IS a big deal not only for clubs as a whole, but athletes, training buddies and coaches as well.  There are clubs out there who have men & women training together, and using each other to feed off in the lead up to these World Championship events. A classic example we can all relate to here is with Kath & Bangers training for Utah. How amazing where they together. Whilst individually they are both exceptional athletes, together they certainly brought out the best in each other, and in US as their support network. Imagine if they didn't have this opportunity to train together for this prestige event. How different their paths would've been.

Looking forward, men and women earning their right to be at World Champs are now not going to have that ability to train with the opposite sex, to share their training and racing experiences together and share it with their team mates. With races being months apart, their programs will be completely different and I find this to be so sad for so many athletes who thrive on a Team environment.

We are so lucky to have a large number of our crew heading down to Port IM in 2023, over both distances. We are able to training together, share our highs and lows and be there for each other on race day to cheer each other over the finish line.

How guttered would be all be if Ironman decided to split Port to separate months and locations. At the end of the day, we are in for Port together and should feel blessed we have each other.

Let's do This,

Alli

The Racing Buzz

It is hard to know where to start with the Weekly Racing Buzz write up for last weekend!

Lets start with Kate over in Busso! Kate has raced 3 IM previously, one of these races in Kona. Kate is a strong swim // biker, so we spent so much time working on her run for this race. Her goals for Busso were to qualify for Kona, and run a pb in the marathon.  And wow, what a run she had! She had the 5th fastest marathon time in her category, a 20 mins PB on the run....and finished in 7th place.....and qualified for Kona. Both boxes have been ticked, a hugely successful day for Kate.

Raby Bay and we had 3 athletes having a race up there, all had super strong races, well done to both Matty B & Mary on your races. Emma coming away with another podium, winner her category!

Multisport Gold was well represented over all distances at the GC50 run festival on Sunday. From Sally in 5km, Liz in the 12, Neill running the individual 25km, to our 4 relay teams, through to our 50km Ultra marathoners in of Kahori & Eiji, each & every one have stories to share from their races. Congratulations to our entire team proudly wearing the squad colours, so proud of our standing within the run community and our results over the duration of this event.

This weekend we have young Bowen racing in the Super Sprint Race Weekend held at Runaway Bay over Friday-Saturday & Sunday. There is a multi event competition held over the 3 days, will high octane racing over a range of distances and combinations.  Coach Alli is a Technical Official over the 3 days, and super excited to see many of our top juniors fighting it out.
