Happy FriYAY Team!
Last weekend I donned on my Technical Officials wide brimmed hat & spent 3 huge days officiating at the Super Sprint Race Weekend held at Runaway Bay.
The SSRW is a weekend of fast racing, skills, tactics and giving some of the States most talented Youth and Junior triathletes the opportunity to race against each other in a variety of formats.
Being able to give back to the sport I love so much is something I am really proud of. I had the opportunity again to work with very experienced TOs, RR and RD, walking away learning so much.
Hopefully, gone are the days when TOs are looked upon as the Bad Cops. Last weekend was all about educating, and enforcing the rules so these young stars are able to perform at a higher level knowing what is expected of them when it comes to obeying and understanding the ITU rules. And trust me, there is a lot of them !!!
Yes, we did hand out penalties for things which the kids should know better with, and there was a few DQs on Day 1, however the majority of kids were so well behaved and respectful. I found it so refreshing that many of these kids had the confidence to ask the TOs questions, to have a laugh with us, to thank us for helping them, and this in itself shows that our sport is in great hands moving forward.
Let's do This,
Alli |
